(SAN DIEGO, CA) — David Quitmeyer and Chris Spoto, owners of San Diego-based Ramco Productions, debuted their first DVD Clown Porn at last month’s Adult Video News Expo. With DVD in hand only a week before the Las Vegas tradeshow, Spoto and Quitmeyer gambled big on reactions from fans, industry insiders and the “King of All Media” Howard Stern.
“Howard Stern is the Midas Touch,” said Spoto, referencing the success of Bumfights, another San Diego production company. “Bumfights sold about 10,000 units, which is admittedly damned good… Then they went on Stern and sold 300,000 copies within the next six to eight months.”
Media lightning hit for Ramco when Clown Porn actresses Jenna Brooks and Hollie Stevens were featured on the “Stupid Bowl” segment of the Howard Stern radio show on Feb 4th. In an all-nude competition that included popping balloons by sitting on them, dildo golf and sausage singing, Brooks was declared unanimous winner out of four contestants and was awarded a $5000 cash prize. Reportedly, Stern was irritated by Brooks and Stevens wearing circus clown make-up, which he felt detracted from their overall hotness.
“Clown Porn is a crazy experiment in stretching the limits of what many people consider pornography nowadays,” said Quitmeyer. He and Spoto worked together on several adult-oriented websites before starting Ramco. “We’ve worked in the industry awhile. We’ve seen the stuff that’s out there and we got to the point where we didn’t like the products we were making.
“We were thinking about doing some kind of comedy video and I just turned to him and said, ‘Dude, clowns…'”
Asked if Clown Porn has a plot, “Yes and no,” Spoto laughed. “We’ve been telling folks…it’s kind of like watching Monty Python with clowns and sex.” Comparisons to Monty Python not withstanding, Clown Porn is porn you can watch and not have to feel like you’re watching porn. It’s funny in a frat-house- hey- my- buddy- is- passed- out- so- let’s- draw- a- dick- on- his- cheek- with- Magic-Marker sort of way. You can get your hardcore action but still pretend to be watching it for the gags (no pun intended).
With a sure-fire following amongst circus clown fetishists, Ramco has future plans to tap into another humorous fetish: “plushies” or people that get off by dressing up in cuddly costumes.
Spoto leaked the idea: “Our next movie… is a guy that dresses up in a bunny suit, who wears mirrored sunglasses, smokes a cigar. He’s sort of a functioning alcoholic and he’s the Keister Bunny… it’s an anal series.”
In a side note, Bumfights producers Zachary Brubeck and Ryan McPherson gained more notoriety this week when they were both ordered by a San Diego judge to do jail time after being found guilty of violating their probation agreements. The violations stem from a 2003 guilty plea to charges of conspiracy to stage an illegal fight, in connection with the making of their Bumfights video.
