(NEW YORK, NY) — Jenna Jameson, the world’s leading adult star, flies to New York City this week from her Arizona home to help ring in the New Year at two top nightclubs. Meanwhile, her career as a book author is getting year-end praise.
Ms. Jameson will host a three-room New Year’s Eve party (from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m.) at the Club Avalon (20th Street and Sixth Avenue; [212] 807-7780, AvalonNewYorkCity.com). Avalon will also feature videos of the midnight count down at Times Square, 22 blocks north of the club.
Avalon co-owner Fedor Banuchi says he’s super-excited to see Jenna at the club again and always looks forward to the crowd she draws. Advance tickets are $65, with an open bar from 9 p.m. to midnight.
After Avalon Jenna moves across town to Vue Nightclub (151 East 50th Street) for the Voyeur’s Ball (from 1:30 a.m. to 3:30 a.m.). She’ll be decked out appropriately for the masquerade party, black tie optional. In addition to special late night guest hostess Jenna the party will feature DJ Skribble (MTV & Ktu) & DJ Rob Swift (formerly of the X-Ecutioners) along with DJ M.O.S. And DJ Julian who are geared to provide an unforgettable New Year’s Eve celebration.
Meanwhile, book reviewers are chiming in with their year-end wrap-ups of the book publishing industry, and Jenna plays a prominent role. FHM magazine says Jenna is the “top author of 2004.” Robert D. Richards and Clay Calvert, professors of communications and law at Penn State University and co-directors of the Pennsylvania Center for the First Amendment, note in the Boston Globe that 2004 “witnessed the continued mainstreaming, popularity, and proliferation of adult entertainment — its detractors simply call it pornography — in American culture. The success of adult video star Jenna Jameson’s best-selling book, ‘How to Make Love Like a Porn Star,’ is testament alone to the popularity of this material. The memoir detailing the trials and tribulations of the world’s most popular adult actress was such a hit this year that people stood in line for 2 1/2 hours at a book signing in San Francisco. According to Publishers Weekly, the book already has had three press runs, with 100,000 copies in print.”
Tristan Taormino, writing in New York’s Village Voice, gives Jenna the “Reverse Cowgirl Award” noting that “The ubiquitous Jenna Jameson scored a record 14 pieces featuring (or plugging) her in the New York Times; this doesn’t include her book’s appearance on the paper’s bestseller lists.”
The December 2 issue of People magazine mentions Jenna’s book in the Top 10 Picks 2004 Books section, as does Entertainment Weekly.
And reviewer Charles Taylor, writing in Newsday, one of the leading New York newspapers, called the book one of his “favorite books of 2004.” He said that while some critics “who bothered with (the book) could barely disguise their contempt” he felt differently: “With the help of co-writer Neil Strauss, Jameson came off as a real person, and her wildly entertaining, quintessentially American story of porn stardom insisted on a stubborn truth that didn’t kowtow to any platitudes about porn, pro or con.”
