(LOS ANGELES, CA) — In aviation parlance, a 71 designates a long-range aircraft capable of flying at speeds over Mach 3.2 at 85,000 feet. But for Wicked Pictures, it’s also the number of 2005 AVN Nominations the company’s long-range commitment to quality has earned it from Adult Video News. Brad Armstrong’s shot-on-film Editor’s Choice The Collector garnered 17 nominations, including Best Film, Best DVD, Best Director – Film, and Best Actress – Film (jessica drake), followed by Armstrong’s Fluff & Fold, which captured 11 nominations, including Best Sex Comedy, Best Director – Video, Best Actress – Video (jessica drake), and Best Actor – Video (Armstrong).
Armstrong received a Best Video Feature nod for his acclaimed thriller Eye of the Beholder, which also received a total of 11 nominations, including Best DVD. His Sweat Shop received nom attention as well, including a Best Actress – Video nod for Kaylani Lei.
Michael Raven’s Julia Ann vehicle Killer Sex & Suicide Blondes received a total of eight noms, including Best Actress – Video (Julia Ann) and Best DVD, while his Kaylani Lei vehicle Blue Rain received four nods, including Best Video Feature and Best Director – Video, and his production of Highway earned a nomination for Best High-Definition Production. Devinn Lane received recognition as a filmmaker in her own right, with a Best Gonzo release nom going to Road Trixxx Vol. 1. Jonathan Morgan’s Cargo received attention as well, with a nom for Best Actor – Video.
Wicked’s award-winning DVD division continued its winning streak by snaring a company record of fifteen nominations, including Best DVD for four titles, including the digital debut of Beautiful. Michael Raven’s the Perfect Stormy was also nominated for Best Interactive DVD.
Speaking of Stormy, the 2004 AVN Best New Starlet also received a Best Supporting Actress – Video nom for her work in Brad Armstrong’s Suspicious Minds, while jessica drake snared recognition for her body of work with a nomination for Female Performer of the Year.
Wicked Pictures’ overall commitment to excellence in presentation was acknowledged with Best VHS Packaging nominations for Fluff & Fold and Killer Sex & Suicide Blondes. Best DVD Packaging noms went to the Collector and Eye of the Beholder and a Best Boxcover Concept nod went to Blue Rain. Additional presentation nominations went to Wicked for Best Overall Marketing Campaign – Company Image and Best Overall Marketing Campaign – Individual Project for Wicked’s Latina Talent Search, Mexican Skindependence Day.
So look out for this high flyin’ 71 when Wicked makes their date with destiny at the Twenty Second Annual AVN Awards show in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday, January 8th, 2005 at the Venetian Hotel Resort & Casino.
