(LOS ANGELES, CA) — The FlyntDigital offices will be closed, Monday September 6 for Labor Day weekend.

The Labor Day observance actually began in May and not in September. And that day was first dedicated to the beginning of summer, not to labor. After the United States Civil War, a major issue facing many Americans was their desire for an 8-hour workday, 16-hour workdays being common. In the 1880’s newly created labor and trade unions decided they needed a “work-stoppage” day to make their point.

May 1, 1886 was chosen because it had been celebrated many centuries before as the beginning of summer, a symbol of the return to life after the bleakness of winter. We are not sure if those who chose the day knew that some ancient revelers celebrated by jumping naked over bonfires and then sacrificing several of their fellow human beings. In any event, nearly a quarter million workers did strike that first May Day for labor, and 8-hour workday laws were gradually and more globally generated, and enforced.

Our offices will be closed Monday, September 6 for Labor Day but you know we are accessible and available 24/7 for any serious issues that may arise. Administrative concerns will be addressed upon staff return on September 7.

Have a great Holiday,
