(CENTURY CITY, CA) — The long-awaited XRCO (X-Rated Critics Organization) Awards Show has finally set a date. It will be held August 19, 2004 once again at the Century Club in Century City. Free entry to this special event is limited to adult industry members and it is not open to the general public. Reservations are recommended. Seats are quickly being reserved and I strongly suggest calling or e-mailing for reservations ASAP!
If the evening matches events of previous years, many of those nominated for various categories will be in attendance.
It should be reminded that this is for 2003. Normally, the awards show is held in mid-February. Next year it should occur earlier in the year.
One new category this year is Mainstream’s Adult Media Favorite, which reflects publicity and mainstream acceptance of the four nominees for their contribution to air time and print exposure during the year 2003. These include Jenna Jameson for her Times Square billboard and media blitz, Ron Jeremy for The Surreal Life 2, other shows, and The Hedgehog Turns 50 cover story in Playboy, Mary Carey for her political run for Governor of California, and Belladonna’s TV coverage for the Diane Sawyer special.
Another new addition, or extension, to a category is expanding Best Comedy to Best Comedy or Parody. The five nominees here are Beat the Devil by Digital Playground, Chunky on the 4th of July by Skin Tight Pictures/Legend Video, It’s Cumming by Heatwave, Perverted Stories The Movie by JM Productions, and Space Nuts by Wicked Pictures.
This event has quickly become a favorite for media and industry alike. “I flew in from Florida just for the show last year and had a blast,” reflected Mike Moz of Nightmoves Publications. “This is really a laid back, relaxed and no-pressure event.”
That may be, but the anticipation for many categories borders on suspenseful. Best New Starlet was a very close race run by Ashley Blue, Jesse Jane, Kaylani Lei, Lauren Phoenix, and Stormy. Likewise, Best New Stud included Barrett Blade, Ben English, Kurt Lockwood, Trent Tesoro, and Trevor Zen. The results for Best Director should prove quite interesting as it is between these directorial heavyweights: Axel Braun, Jules Jordan, Jonathan Morgan, Michael Raven, and Paul Thomas.
Scheduled highlights of the evening will also include the Hall of Fame inductees: Kent Smith AKA James Avalon, Adam Glasser AKA Seymore Butts, and Selena Steele. A few surprises are also being arranged.
Doors open at 7pm. The show will begin at 8pm. For reservations contact Bill Margold at 818-501-6139 or via the e-mail link on XRCO.com . A compete list of those nominated can be found at this site and everyone in the adult industry, nominated or not, is encouraged to attend.
