(MIAMI, FL) — Luke “Uncle Luke” Campbell and Representative James “Hank” Harper join forces to register 40,000 Hip-Hop Voters by July 2004.

“Uncle Luke” Campbell, who is currently in production for his first video for Exquisite Multimedia, has joined forces with several other musicians, sports stars, politicians, and Miss Black Universe, to educate the Hip-Hop generation about the importance of voting and the critical role they will play in election 2004.

Luke “Uncle Luke” Campbell and State Representative James “Hank” Harper, Jr., launched “Election 2004: The Movement Tour” on March 27 at Florida Memorial College in Miami.

The Tour’s mission is to register 40,000 new voters in Florida within the Hip-Hop generation by July 2004, beginning at Florida Memorial College and making stops at four historically black colleges and other major universities in Florida. The meetings will feature demonstrations of the county’s new voting machines and the distribution of voter education materials prepared by election officials and nonpartisan organizations.

Voters will be provided with information on what to expect at the polls, new voting procedures, the impact of legislative redistricting on the location of polling places, voter’s bill of rights, and the election protection hotline. There will also be poll worker recruitment.

“We need to awaken the sleeping giant and send the Hip-Hop generation a strong message about voting and getting involved in the political process,” said Luke “Uncle Luke” Campbell. “We can’t just wait until election day. We need to get people pumped up now.” the Movement’s Board members include: Luther “Uncle Luke” Campbell, Chair; Trina; Wyclef Jean, Haitian artist; Pitbull, Latino artist; Big Tigger, Rap City Tha Basement; Edgerrin James, Indianapolis Colts; Warren Sapp, Tampa Bay Buccaneers; Bruce Rogo, PA; Sam Johnson and Karley Wright, Miss Black Universe.

“Our goal is to register at least 40,000 new voters for election 2004,” said Rep. James “Hank” Harper. “As black lawmakers, community leaders, business leaders, civil rights and religious leaders, we have to take steps now to guarantee our constituencies are registered and have access to the polls on August 31, 2004. We have to ensure that the Hip-Hop generation’s votes will be counted on election day.”
