Congressman Brad Sherman listens to RayVeness

(RESEDA, CA) — In a town hall-style meeting in a San Fernando Valley High School, Congressman Brad Sherman (27th District) spoke to his constituency for nearly two hours. He fielded questions about everything from email spam to work for adult performers.

The woman requesting Congressman Sherman’s support in asking Congress to pass laws to regulate adult films by raising the age of performers from 18 to 21, and other work for adult performers, was veteran adult actress RayVeness. She drew a line in the sand.

RayVeness stated her case, asked for support, and made her Congressman aware of the fact that the adult industry could be the only industry that doesn’t require proper documentation from performers. She stated, “…the law requires everyone else to show ID to work but it is not enforced by the adult industry or policed by the government and there is proof of this.”

In addition to the economic loss, raising the age of adult performers to 21 has now officially been proposed. It appears people are signing petitions to that effect. The argument is that this would give 18 through 21-year-olds 3 more years of life experience before deciding to do an adult movie.

The logic is that pictures are forever and once you do something on film you can’t take it back. Most retired pornstars can’t get “normal” jobs because they are so recognizable. Instead of ruining your whole life, try everything in life that interests you first, and if you are not happy, THEN decide you would like to do porn. People right out of high school in this country don’t seem to have the foresight to make such life-altering decisions.

Congressman Sherman voiced an interest in the subject and indicated he would review the petition submitted through his office.

RayVeness, coined “the Den Mother of Adult” by Bill Margold, started in 1990 in Altamonte Springs, Florida, and has been featured in over 300 adult movies, has been spokesmodel for an adult toy line, been Playboy TV’s Fax Girl Royale and, since 1994, a feature dancer.
