As a part time resident of Nassau, I have seen the best and the worst of New Providence and Paradise Island. Within the exotic dance industry it was a stretch to locate the main strip club within range of the busy main road known as Bay Street.
The club is called Fantasy, and though exotic dancing is illegal here, they are almost always open for business. The police often make it known to the owners that they wish them to close, by barging in and arresting the dancers, staff and owner, for the night for questioning. If you are a costumer, consider yourself safe, however keep in mind that they may have a camera crew as they do their work. The cameras are for a local television station so it’s an obvious embarrassment for those caught in the lens. Try explaining that one to your wife when you said you were staying late at the office that night, working.
Most tourists do not get the pleasure of knowing about Paradise’s location unless they ask, or are offered information voluntarily by a taxi driver. When you arrive, you’ll be “greeted” by someone at the bottom of a stairway, guarding a locked gate. It’s always best, if you are new or visiting, to arrive with a local or a taxi driver, for safety. Not sure what you may be trying to protect yourself from, but this is what they say.
Inside there are two main rooms, one with a bar, big screen TV (playing comedy, since fiction movies), and tables and booths. In the other room, there is a pool table in the middle of the floor which the dancers perform on. In the center and to the side of the table is a stable pole, however with the average height ceiling, many dancers are restricted from doing any climbing, or upside down moves which require the expected space above head. Men line the walls sitting in comfy chairs, as they watch, pick and choose the dancer which catches their eye for a dance. Dances can be done in that same room, or in one of their two private rooms. Cost is 10.00 – 20.00 a song, and as a girl, I was pleased to see the girls don’t shy away from anyone. Most are confident, positive, smiley, and do their best to please.
Fantasy’s management and staff have always been very good to their customers, and I wish them the best in the rest of this year and in 2004!
