(AUCKLAND, NZ) — Office workers, both male and female, joined a throng of Asian students lined along Auckland’s busiest road to watch the foreign porn actresses, who waved to the crowds and posed for pictures while stopped at traffic lights.
Protest organisers say the present situation is unfair in that men can bare their chests in public, but exposure of the female breast is deemed objectionable or obscene.
The five actresses are in the country for the annual Erotica Expo at the Auckland Showgrounds this weekend.
New Zealand adult film-maker Steve Crow was behind the protest and a spokeswoman said he was not expecting authorities to try to stop it.
“His partner is a policewoman and he was aware there could be some problems, so he rang police to warn them,” she said. “They told him they would turn a blind eye.”
Police did turn a blind eye in a manner of speaking, but still kept a presence on the street and in patrol cars as the women drove by.
