America Needs Better Porno

Jim Graham knows why you don’t like porn.

It’s not your fault – it’s just that most pornography stinks.

But Graham – the city’s most-vocal pornangelist – wants to change that. He’s teaching people – one man, one woman or, preferably, one couple at a time – that “good” porn exists, and he wants them to then rent or buy it in hopes the porn industry will get the message.

“It’s simple supply and demand,” said Graham, a 40-year-old former nudie photographer (perhaps you’ve seen his work in Leg World and Big Butt magazines).

“Sales of good porn would encourage pornographers to find better talent and buy better scripts so we’d all get what we want: even better porn.”

To speed the process, Graham created “The Porno Jim Show,” a theatrical experience that can be best described as a history of classic (and not-so-classic) porn – in 30-second clips.

At first glance (and what a first glance it is!), it’s just an XXX-cuse to watch people having sex. But watch a little more (OK, if you insist), and you see Graham is providing an invaluable education for the potential pornophile on all the good, the bad and the ugly that’s lurking in the adult section of your local video store.

And some of it is very ugly: In one clip early in Graham’s show, the repulsive male lead is so bored by the mindless humping he actually stops, mid-thrust, to rest.

As a contrast, Graham shows ample clips featuring Jenna Jameson – “The greatest porn star in the world!” – as an example of the good stuff.

“Look at her,” Graham said. “She’s attractive, she’s enjoying herself and she had great chemistry with her partner – just like a good movie.”

Graham’s show has been running for more than a year – no doubt capitalizing on America’s obsession with the $10-billion porn industry.

But just because pornography is increasingly mainstream doesn’t mean it’s getting better.

“Most of it is horrible because it’s designed to satisfy the very limited need of the average lonely man,” he said. “And women don’t like porn because most of it features ugly men or women in demeaning positions. So they need to make porn for the other 90 percent of us.”

With its graphic sexual content, Graham’s part-lecture, part-lecher show is obviously a big hit with men and bachelorette parties. One giggly gaggle of gals – all sipping beer out of penis-shaped straws – squirmed when Graham advised they encourage their boyfriends to watch good porn – until he said it would make their lovers better, well, lovers.

“As I’ve always said, an educated porn consumer is your best sexual partner,” he said. “I guess they could learn about sex from a book, too, but who reads nowadays?”
