(LOS ANGELES, CA) — Though sex education is taught in our schools, it has failed to offer information on some of the most important things one can learn and apply to their bedroom practice. Sure, it teaches the basics of baby making and STDs, but what about technique and pleasure? Further instruction on health and safety? Or even basic sensuality and connecting with your partner? Introducing Erotic University [2260 E. 15th Street, 2nd Floor, Los Angeles, CA, EroticUniversity.com], a facility that’s the first of its kind anywhere in the world aiming to further educate adults on sexuality past what they learned in high school.

“A place like Erotic University is especially important now because sex education in traditional schools has completely failed,” says author and sex educator Jeff Booth, who founded Erotic University. “Social and religious conservatives have decisively won the battle against sex education in the schools. The ‘Abstinence Only’ education taught in most schools and mandated by the Federal Government in order to get governmental funding is riddled with misinformation and pseudo-science, and is intended to promote abstinence by making students afraid of sex. Many sexologists believe that this approach is leading to an increased incidence of sexual dysfunction and sexual dissatisfaction, even in marriage.”

Booth’s mandate with Erotic University is to promote healthier attitudes about sex and greater acceptance of sexual diversity. Through Erotic University, students will be given access to the best information available from some of the country’s leading authorities on sexuality and sexual practices, including writers, sexologists, porn stars and PhDs.

“Frankly, I thought traditional sex educators would be too conservative to get on board with our idea of making sex education playful and fun, and not so dry and serious,” says Booth. “But many have told me that this is exactly what people need.”

Classes will begin on Saturday, May 24th and take place every Saturday thereafter at Erotic University’s 30,000 square foot facility in downtown Los Angeles, which doubles as a licensed motion picture studio during the week. The first class – its space already sold out – teaches the basics of pole dancing in a dance area equipped with a full dance floor and four dance poles. The following Saturday, Erotic University welcomes sex educator, author and Village Voice columnist Tristan Taromino, who will teach Kicking it Up a Notch: Taking sex to the Next Level, discussing how long-term couples can spice up their sex life. Future classes include the Adult Toy Master Class, Intro to Tantric sex, Swinging 101, Bondage Basics, the Art of Flirting, Stripping for a Lover, Sensual Massage, and classes on basic sexual techniques such as oral sex and manual stimulation.

They may sound wild, but the classes will have limits, Booth cautions. “While we will be specific and explicit in the classes, they definitely won’t be hands-on for legal and student comfort reasons. We will certainly give people homework assignments, though, and I’m willing to bet no one will complain about that!”
