(LAS VEGAS, NV) — The President of the Las Vegas Dancers Alliance, Andrea Hackett, announced today that Playboy Enterprises has declined to sponsor the organization’s planned fund-raiser in January.
The dancer group, formed earlier this year, will now look to other leaders in the industry to help kick off their initiative drive and challenge the new laws that went into effect September 1st. Initial discussions with Playboy Radio had raised the possibility that their involvement might be forthcoming, but those hopes were dashed earlier this week with the decision by Playboy officials not to get involved.
Speaking from her home in Las Vegas, Ms. Hackett said, “It’s unfortunate Playboy chose not to get involved in our effort, but we have to respect that decision. Playboy is a widely-venerated institution and their contribution to our industry is incalculable. Unfortunately, that doesn’t change the facts. The situation we have in Las Vegas is critical. By prohibiting lap dances, prohibiting couch dances, declaring that women under 21 cannot work in topless clubs, criminalizing the mere mention of a tip, and instituting business licenses that will cost entertainers anywhere from $150 to $550 a year, local officials have declared total war on the adult entertainment business. Unless our initiative is successful, these local officials may well succeed in devastating the adult entertainment capital of the world.”
LVDA is committed to fighting these laws and will redouble its efforts to find someone in the industry willing to lend their support.
