(CHATTANOOGA, TN) — Ninth grade teacher, Robert Wheeler was suspended this week for giving his students the assignment of reading an article in Playboy magazine.
Wheeler, a teacher at Northwest Whitfield High School assigned the article on free speech to his students. Parts of the article included a description of several sex acts and a story about a stripper.
School officials became aware of the assignment after several parents complained. Wheeler is currently on paid suspension, but may be reinstated next week by Whitfield County School Superintendent Tom Dickson. Dickson says Wheeler has apologized to the school, students and parents.
