(CHATSWORTH, CA) — AVN has created six new award categories, including honors for the top male and female foreign performers and Director of the Year, for the 20th annual AVN Awards Show, to be held in Jan. 11 in Las Vegas, the magazine announced today. The other new awards categories are Best Male Newcomer, Best Director – Gonzo and Best Specialty Tape – Foot Fetish.
"We feel these new categories will reward the hard work of some very deserving individuals in our industry who might not otherwise get recognized," said AVN Editor-in-Chief Mike Ramone. "We will honor both the Male and the Female Foreign Performer of the Year, the Director of the Year for his or her body of work released in the eligibility period (Oct. 1, 2001 through Sept. 30, 2002) and Best Director – Gonzo for a single title."
Ramone said the Best Male Newcomer honor is the male equivalent of the coveted Best New Starlet award, while the foot fetish award reflects a surge in titles in that category. Was created because of the abundance of foot fetish fare being released. Previously, foot fetish tapes were considered in the Best Specialty Tape – Other Genre category.
Ramone said AVN was "committed to putting on a succinct, fast-paced, highly entertaining, multimedia show. Being AVN’s 20th anniversary Awards Show, January’s extravaganza will be an especially memorable production, loaded with surprises, that the industry won’t want to miss."
To be considered for a 2003 Awards Show nomination in any category, a production must have been released between Oct. 1, 2001 and Sept. 30, 2002. As long as the tape or DVD has been received by retailers or distributors on or before the 30th, it will be eligible. "The Sept. 30 cut-off date is less than three months away," Ramone noted, "so producers should plan on releasing any tapes, films or DVDs they want considered for awards nominations on or before that date." He also reminded producers that Sept. 30 is the deadline for them to provide AVN with their lists of tapes, scenes, performers, box covers and marketing campaigns they want to be considered for awards nominations. Producers are also reminded to provide the magazine with two copies of each tape and/or scene they would like nominated. Lists can also be e-mailed to Ramone@AVN.com or faxed to him at 818-718-5799.
