(LAS VEGAS, NV) — Las Vegas is the location for the 3-day video trade show. The show dates are July 16-18 with Adult, Major Studio, and Independents represented. Some of the Adult companies are Vivid, Wicked, Adam & Eve, Private, Peach, VCA, Underground, and Playboy.

I was not planning to attend untill I found a cheap flight and decided to head to the show. It turns out that Aloha airlines has a new route from Burbank to Las Vegas for $99.00 round trip I couldn’t resist.

10:00am Wednesday: I enter the Rio Hotel; register for the show and pickup a schedule. While there, I meet briefly with Kelly Warren, Director of Public Relations/VSDA and she is enthusiastic about today’s events. With a map in hand, I head for the Adult suites.

The first stop is Vivid Video where contract girl Kody Cameron is happily signing autographs. I take a few photos and ask her about her upcoming video releases. Kody says, “I have three videos due out shortly, “Grand Opening” – about a Bar opening where I play the bartender, “Sold” – about me having a Garage sale, and “Gold Diggers”, my personal favorite, it’s about a guy and his 3 ex-wives; I play the maid and there is a spectacular 4 girl sex scene with me, Lola, August, and Kip.” This is a video that I plan to review personally when I get back to the office!

Next stop is VCA with contract girl Tawny Roberts looking beautiful and Mischa Allen heading the sales force. Tawny is promoting “The Sleaze Show,” “High Desert Dream Girls,” and “Little Town Flirts.” Before, leaving I get an autograph from Tawny, she writes; “Julian, thanks for last night! Kisses, Tawny Roberts.”

Across the hall is Private’s suite staffed by Mara Epstein and Dean Sussman. Their newest video, the Gladiator Trilogy 1, 2, & 3 were all filmed at once and cost $800,000. Part 1 is currently available in VHS with DVD to follow, while Part 2 will be available in VHS shortly. Along with the video, there is a book available with hundreds of color photos. Ms. Epstein, Sr. Exec account manager, comments, “The suite format this year is similar to that of the AFM (American Film market); More conducive for business and you don’t have to worry about a Boob hitting you in the face while pitching a potential buyer.” She also mentioned that we should be hearing about the new Gay line by Private very soon.

On to Wicked: They have contract director and performer Devinn Lane signing posters. She just finished filming “The Devinn Lane Show parts 3 & 4,” and at the end of this month will begin filming Playboy’s “7 Lives Exposed-2nd season.” Look for “The Devinn Lane Show pt 2,” “Makin it” and “Hercules” due out later this year. After snapping a few photos, I am handed a goody bag that includes a Wicked hat, promotional video, and posters. It’s the Wicked way of thanking everyone who stops by today.

Underground Entertainment’s suite at the end of the hall has Taylor Sims promoting her first XXX video; “Featuring Taylor Sims”. The video contains a hot G/G scene with Taylor and TJ Hart. Her other credits include Miss Big Bust World, Miss Topless USA, Miss Nude Blonde, Miss Erotic North America, and Miss Nude Florida Best Breast. Jay Engle, National Sales Manager, directs me to their first in a series titled, “Chloe the Hermaphrodite.” the advertising caption reads, “Sex from men, sex from women, Chloe the hermaphrodite takes it all.” This is something that you don’t see everyday and should be very successful.

The last stop before lunch is Peach DVD, a relatively new company. They have Peach girls Mary Carey, Chrissy Moran, Angel Cassidy, and Lexy signing for the attendees. I recognize Mary from a previous Jill Kelly set, but the other girls are mostly new to the video business. Robbie Conley, VP of National Sales is on hand to tell me that Peach is a soft core company that produces interactive multi-angle DVD’s. One of the founders of Vivid, David James is the owner of Peach, so you know that they will have some staying power. On the way out, Robbie hands me an invite to a party celebrating Peach at the super chic “Ghost Bar” tonight. Peach girls and free drinks what a concept!

1:30pm: I head back to the exhibit area to wait for Jenna Jameson who will be signing autographs from 2-4pm. Next to the line is a Good Humor booth giving away free samples. I take a look and grab a “Ben & Jerry’s Cherry Garcia Bar,” my favorite. It seems that they acquired Ben & Jerry’s in 2000. The management team and vision has been replaced by Corporate America, but who cares. The ice cream still tastes great. A few minutes before 2:00pm Jenna arrives with Kody Cameron. The line has grown and they get the photos and pens ready. I head to the table to snap a few pictures and say hello to Justin Sterling. He remembers me from the “I Dream of Jenna” set and mentions that he enjoyed reading my column. To a journalist nothing is more satisfying than receiving this compliment. I thank Mr. Sterling and tell him that I have to get back in line for an autograph. He says, “Don’t worry about it, you’re first.” I get the autographs, thank Jenna and Justin, and head to the Flynt seminar.

2:00pm: Paul Cambria speaks first and talks about the Adult Video Store owner. He says, “Anybody can bring obscenity charges, work with the public and reach a compromise before it gets out of hand.” After a few minutes, Larry Flynt is introduced. “I am here to talk about the 1st Amendment, free speech… free expression, to protect all speech, no matter how offensive. “If you don’t offend someone, you don’t need protection.” “The greatest right of any nation is ‘the right to be left alone.'” In closing he says, “I want to be remembered for expanding the parameter of free speech.” the crowd gives him a standing ovation as he leaves the stage. The speech was extremely powerful and there is no doubt that Larry Flynt will continue to lead the pursuit of 1st Amendment rights.

4:00pm: With still an entire evening ahead of me, I decide to head to my room for a nap.

7:30pm: I hail a cab and head to the “Ghost Bar” at the Palms Hotel & Casino. To get to the club you take an elevator to the 55th floor. The club has 12 foot floor-to-ceiling windows all around. The views of the Las Vegas strip are better than at the Rio’s VooDoo lounge. There is also an outside deck, but it is closed tonight. It’s too bad since there is this glass floor that I’ve heard of; standing on it you can see straight down 55 floors to the ground. It’s pretty trippy if you have had a few glasses of wine, I’m told.

Shortly, the Peach girls arrive along with Jenna Jameson, Nina Hartley, and Alexandra Silk. They pose for photos and mingle with the VIP’s in attendance tonight. Strategically placed around the club are video monitors playing the latest Peach DVD video. I watch the video for a few minutes and see the company slogan flash on the screen; “Adam bit the Apple, now Taste the Peach”. Sounds more like something that you’d hear at a whore house, but it’s catchy. At 9:30pm the free drinks are over and it’s my cue to head off to the next party. Unfortunately, I am lured over to the black jack table on the way out. Without wasting any words, let’s just say that I bought new uniforms for the Sacramento Kings’ next season. For those of you who don’t know, the Palm is owned by the Maloof brothers.

To conclude, Kelli Warren was correct; I had a great time at the event and met a lot of new contacts. The show was well run and the seminars were very informative. Next time, I plan to stay all 3 days. Aloha, as I fly back to Burbank.
