(NEW YORK, NY) — Viewpoint Corporation, a world leader in innovative graphics software, today announced that Playboy Enterprises, Inc. is deploying Viewpoint’s "pixels on demand" ZoomView technology for Playboy’s Playmate of the Year promotion.
The Playmate promotion, which began running on Playboy.com on April 26, 2002, is the first step of what is expected to be many upcoming ZoomView related projects on Playboy’s various online properties, including Playboy.com, SpiceTV.com and PlayboyStore.com. Playboy plans to feature an interactive gallery of all the Playmates, dating back to the start of Playboy magazine in 1953, as an interactive functionality that will be available exclusively for the members of it’s wildly successful subscription service, Playboy Cyber Club.

While traditional Web pages display low-resolution thumbnail images, Viewpoint’s ZoomView permits the easy deployment of large, print-quality images online, allowing users to zoom in, pan around and examine the finest of details without special graphics cards or high-speed Internet access.
Because ZoomView incorporates Viewpoint’s XML Media Envelope, it allows Playboy to build a uniquely "Playboy" interactive experience, including a zoom-in button in the shape of the trademark Playboy Rabbit Head. The technology also allows Playboy’s Web team to build sophisticated animations and interaction between other page elements thereby enabling guests to pan, zoom and HyperView smoothly and easily into the high-resolution images even over dial-up connections, in a manner consistent with the Playboy.com user experience.
