Virgin Mobile is in talks with adult magazine publisher Playboy to launch soft-core pornography services on its mobile phones, the British telecommunications company said on Monday.
"The current generation of phones cannot show pictures of great quality, but this will change in time as more color screens and better resolutions are developed," said Steven Day, corporate affairs director at Virgin. "But we’re not interested in providing hard-core pornographic graphics — the emphasis is very much on fun and we’d like to see ourselves as something like the Sun newspaper supplying entertainment, news, trivia and something more cheeky like a Page 3."
The service would provide anonymous flirting facilities including games and images and would carry a warning that it was not suitable for children under 16. However, Day said stressed it would not yet include pornographic pictures of women.
