(ENCINO, CA) — Show organizers and exhibitors alike were especially pleased by the record-breaking overall and fan attendance of the 2002 AVN Adult Entertainment Expo, held January 9-12 at the Sands Expo Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. The show is produced by Home Entertainment Events, a joint venture of the Video Software Dealers Association and Advanstar Communications, Inc.
Overall Expo attendance was up 38% and fan attendance at the show was up 26%. There were more than 15,000 fan attendees and 6,500 industry professionals among the approximately 23,000 show goers. Additionally the number of exhibiting companies at the 2002 Expo totaled 179, up 16% from 2001.
“It was a very successful and productive show, which is reflective of how strong a year it’s been for the adult home video industry,” said Home Entertainment Events/Advanstar Show Director Mary Thompson. “The exhibitors offered both trade and fan attendees a very exciting show, and exhibitors were very happy with the heavy and packed crowds on the show floor, and the amount of business they were doing.”
“The AVN Adult Entertainment Expo, like the adult entertainment industry, continues to grow and generate strong consumer support,” said Carrie Dieterich, VSDA Vice President of Marketing and Industry Relations. “Most interesting this year was the amount of general interest media attention the show generated.”
The 2002 Adult Entertainment Expo kicked-off with an opening Ribbon-Cutting featuring Digital Playground’s highly popular contract star, Tara Patrick, along with show organizer representatives Tom Warren, Chairman of the VSDA, and Don Rosenberg, Advanstar Communications/Home Entertainment Events Group Video Director.
The fourth annual AVN Adult Entertainment Expo was backed again by the show’ s long-standing principal sponsors – VCA Pictures, Vivid Entertainment Group and Wicked Pictures.
The Expo also featured a trade seminar on adult industry legal issues, and two popular evening events were held in conjunction with the show.
