(ATLANTA, GA) — Michael D. Childs the owner of the Atlanta nude clubs, Nikki’s VIP and The Gentlemen’s Club has pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court on Wednesday of two counts of arson and one count of tax evasion.
Childs, a one-time friend of embattled Atlanta Mayor Bill Campbell and former mayor’s aid Dewey Clark denied any comment Wednesday. Childs was apparently cooperating with authorities since February 2000 on other issues including the Gold Club trial admitted to trying to have competitor’s strip clubs torched and burned. Childs hatched the plan when Atlanta Mayor Campbell failed to grant a liquor license to one of Child’s clubs.
The terms of the plea agreement are still sketchy, but Childs has to forfeit ownership of his two clubs, and could serve as much as five years in prison and pay a fine. Childs is expected to only get probation. The clubs Childs ordered to have burned down were Body Tap, Magic City, Pleasers and Club Oasis.
