(ATLANTA, GA) — The effects of the September 11 terrorist attacks have taken a temporary toll on the multi million dollar adult entertainment industry in Atlanta.
While most tradeshows and conventions have gone off without a glitch since the terrorist attacks, attendance has been down at almost all of these events in metro Atlanta. Of particular concern is the fact that the international attendees at these events is very scant. Atlanta’s gentlemen’s clubs depend heavily on the convention business and it’s ability to bring in big spending international visitors.
One Japanese attendee at the large farm show in Georgia said there is still that fear of flying, especially in the States. The farm show comprises over 2.1 million square feet of displays and demonstrations, with over 1000 exhibitors attending. But, for the first time in the history of the show, no attendance figures will be released.
Atlanta’s strip clubs, in the news this year because of the infamous Gold Club trial had been doing record business until the September 11 events. Now, with hotels sometimes only 50% full during the week, one club manager said that he sees his customer base coming back slowly and with major conventions and the NCAA man’s basketball Final Four coming in March, a recovery is likely for the clubs that survive this slowdown.
