(ATLANTA, GA) — Lost in all the complaining by the federal government, the Atlanta City Council and developers is the fact that Steven Kaplan’s, the former owner of the infamous Gold Club strip bar in Atlanta rent was a paltry $700 a month.
For those not familiar with the Gold Club in Atlanta, it sits on a tract of land that lies on one of the busiest streets in Atlanta. It is also near other high traffic intersections. To learn that Kaplan only paid a rent sum of $700 a month makes other business owners in the area shake their heads in disbelief. One dry cleaner, located diagonal to the Gold Club said compared to what he is paying for rent in a run down strip mall $700 was a bottle of champagne for the strip club.
Granted Kaplan owned 50% of the Gold Club and property, the owner’s of the other 50%, a Greek family didn’t seem in any hurry to raise the rent and bring it up to the norm in the area. If you want to know what $700 will get you for an apartment in that area of Atlanta, picture a rat infested, broken down one room efficiency. Not a pretty picture.
