(CHATSWORTH, CA) — In May of 2001, Elegant Angel Productions announced their newest contest "Direct Your Own XXX Video". The idea of the contest was to have contestants direct their own 15 minute scene and submit it to Elegant Angel.
It would then be reviewed by several of our screeners and judged on a point system. The submissions were to be judged on editing, lighting, music, talent, and "whatever makes my dick hard" according to Patrick Collins, owner of Elegant Angel. The grand prize winner would be flown to Los Angeles, and given a budget to direct their own video, having it distributed by the company. Also, a $10,000 grand prize was thrown in to sweeten the deal.
Elegant Angel started this contest due to the overwhelming mail they received from people inquiring about how to get into the adult business. "We wanted to give those people a chance of a lifetime. We received SO MANY letters on this, we thought we would be inundated with entries. There are so many amateur videos being put out, that we thought people would jump at the chance to direct a video for a major company, AND win $10,000." said Mitzi Connett, Elegant Angel’s publicist.
The first deadline to the contest for submitted entries was August 1, 2001. As of this date, no entries have been submitted.
Because of the lack of interest to this contest, the contest has been withdrawn.
From Collins, "As for the contest being dropped, I dropped it because there was no interest in it during the entire time we had it up! For YEARS people have said how they could do better if given the chance… I guess they realize the tremendous amount of WORK that would be involved if they were to REALLY make a scene. "This goes to show that making a good video is harder than most people think."
Elegant Angel has previously thrown two other contests. The first was to win a date with the well known porn star, Keisha. And the other was to appear in a sex scene with Alexandra Quinn. "We had an overwhelming response to both of those contests. They were covered by the media and were a lot of fun", says Connett.
