(SAN FRANCISCO, CA) — Theatre actor Randy Wendelin, also known as porn star Steve Regis, died Thursday, July 26, 2001 at Lands End Beach in San Francisco. He had an on-going heart condition for many years and died of a sudden-death-syndrome heart attack, according to his life-partner Tom Finan.
"He had tripped on some wooden steps and managed to get back up, but when we started to walk, he took another step, became light-headed and fell backwards into my arms. I laid him on the ground and cradled him. Our friend Matt, who was with us, called 911 and they gave instruction to me on mouth-to-mouth. When the medics arrived, they pronounced Randy dead," Mr. Finan said in an e-mail announcing Randy’s passing.
Randy is survived by his lover, Tom Finan, and many loving friends. A memorial celebration of Randy’s life will be held in San Francisco later in August. E-mail Tom Finan for details [ TFinan3250@aol.com ].
In lieu of flowers, Randy wanted to have his name inscribed at the Circle of Friends at the National AIDS Memorial Grove (AMG) in Golden Gate Park [ www.AIDSmemorial.org ]. The AMG, a 15-acre wooden basin located in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park, is the nation’s first living memorial to the hundreds of thousands of Americans who have died of AIDS and their loved ones. The AMG is totally supported by private donations and receives no government financial assistance. The Circle of Friends, a flagstone circle of more than 2,000 names of people touched by the AIDS crisis, was added to the Grove in order to raise funds to endow perpetual care of the Grove and is a project of the Tides Center [ Tides.org ], a non-profit corporation.
