(KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia) — It may share the title and the first five minutes resembles the Hollywood smash, but the rest of this film is a far cry from the romantic war drama ‘Pearl Harbor’.
The video compact disc (VCD) version selling in Malaysia is pure hard-core porn, definitely not involving the real film’s stars Ben Affleck and Kate Beckinsale.
Malaysian authorities seized almost 40 copies of the pornographic movie in Butterworth, in northern Penang state, newspapers reported on Friday.
"The first five minutes are the original version of the movie while the rest is porn," The Star daily quoted Rodzi Husain, a ministry official, as saying.
But there was little chance of getting the two versions mixed up — the original cover has a woman ducking under a washing line as Japanese fighters fly low overhead.
And in the pornographic version?
"The cover of the VCD showed a woman in an army uniform with her top exposed," Rodzi said.
A quick look around sidestreet VCD vendors in Kuala Lumpur, and it is easy to see the formula repeated in another pornographic rip-off of a recent Hollywood hit — "The Mummy Returns."
Malaysia is one of the world’s biggest video piracy markets, with VCDs of top movies selling for as little as six ringgit ($1.60).
In May, two men were arrested for using a video camera to make an illegal copy of the ‘Pearl Harbor’ while it was playing at a cinema.
