(ATLANTA, GA) — Things have appeared to "quiet" down a little as the Gold Club Trial continues in Atlanta. Last week a mentally distressed man committed suicide on a construction crane above the Gold Club in Midtown Atlanta. Early that morning while the man had authorities at bay he made references to the Gold Club trial itself.
This week mob related testimony came back into the trial. The prosecution, winning a ruling from the Judge allowing wiretap tapes that tie Gold Club owner Steven Kaplan to the mafia to be played in court, spurred this on.
Things got worse for Kaplan when mob associate and leg breaker Willie Marshall took the stand and said Kaplan had ties with John Gotti. Marshall also told tales of Mafia activity with other strip clubs including the popular Scores in New York where he was employed as a bouncer.
Monday, former Scores manager, Craig Carlino was on the stand and said he had warned Kaplan to cease the sexual activity in the Gold Club VIP rooms. Kaplan didn’t seem to heed the warnings as the activity continued, and in the opinion of Carlino, all Kaplan was concerned about was making money. Carlino said he and Kaplan had preliminary talks about buying other strip clubs around the country, but he was reluctant to go any further with Kaplan because of his mob ties.
