(CANNES, France) — Playboy founder and publisher Hugh Hefner has sailed into the Cannes film festival accompanied by seven buxom blondes to celebrate his 75th birthday in style.
Asked whether he had trouble getting along with all seven women, the silver-haired, debonair Hefner replied: “It’s not that difficult, I have a very large bed.”
The doyen of soft porn told reporters on Sunday he had been emotionally bruised by the break-up of his 10-year marriage three years ago, but added that he now realized he had been missing out on a lot of fun.
“I’ve discovered that these last three years have been the best of my life,” Hefner explained. “I obviously am in a very unique situation. There are not a lot of guys at my age who are enjoying this kind of life.”
Hefner said he first came to the French Riviera resort in 1959. “I’m back here because we’re doing a lot of interesting things overseas and because my ladies wanted very much to see Cannes,” Hefner said.
One of the new projects was a film about Hefner’s life, which he hopes will be released next year. Universal was still developing the script, he said, so no one had been cast.
“I’m getting on in years. I’m playing myself and it’s the best role I’ve ever played, but for film purposes I think we need a younger man, (Ben) Affleck is a possibility,” he said.
Musing a moment on the post-feminist age, Hefner said he thought young women had embraced the Playboy bunny image as a new form of female empowerment.
“I always felt the sexual emancipation was for both sexes, otherwise it doesn’t work. It really wasn’t a guy’s ploy to get laid,” he added.
