Artisan Entertainment, who with The Blair Witch Project and Requiem For A Dream revolutionized the use of the Internet to support new movie releases, launches its most daring and erotic initiative to date with the first interactive movie website inspired by the upcoming film Center of the World.
Hitting theatres April 20, Center of the World is the raw and candid story of a straightforward sexual arrangement between a stripper and young entrepreneur that disintegrates into emotional chaos. The film explores what happens when our fantasies of pleasure, power and love collide with the messy, unpredictable reality of human feelings. Propelling the user into the steamy world of strip clubs, www.center-of-the-world.com explores those same emotions by allowing visitors to slowly become intimate with the notorious adult actress Alisha Klass, including an ingeniously savvy “intelligence scripting” chat function that makes users believe they are really communicating with Klass. The seductive website – built by renowned site-developer Hi Res, the creators of the Requiem for a Dream and Soul Bath websites – includes an original script and new content shot by Center of the World director Wayne Wang (Joy Luck Club, Smoke) exclusively for the site.
With the same voyeuristic tension of the film, center-of-the-world.com thrusts the user into an erotic exchange with a stripper where fantasies can be fulfilled if you are willing to participate! It is a revolutionary achievement for a movie inspired web site — and an incredibly intriguing and racy piece of web art. Through security and web cam angles the site truly takes one deeper and deeper into the inner workings of a virtual strip club from pole dancing and lap dances to the behind-the-scenes in the dressing room — where the experience intensifies.
Adding to the site’s intrigue is the Intelligence Scripting chat function that the user encounters in the “Back Room”. The chat is created so cleverly that users are made to feel as if Alisha is responding to them as they are presented with a view of her via webcam and message board. It is in this secret behind-the-scenes look at the strip club where Alisha shares an experience from her day that haunts her yet leaves her sexually charged. She welcomes communication via the message board to help release her tension. MOVIE SYNOPSIS
The latest motion picture achievement by acclaimed director Wayne Wang and shot entirely on digital film, Center of the World stars two of Hollywood’s hot upcoming actors –Molly Parker (Florence) as a drummer in a rock band who works as a stripper to pay the bills, and Peter Sarsgaard (Richard) as a twentysomething, brilliant computer engineer in an all-consuming pursuit of IPO glory. When Richard and Florence meet at a local coffee shop, there is an immediate attraction that grows even stronger when Richard receives a steamy lap dance from Florence at her strip club. When Richard offers Florence $10,000 to accompany him to Las Vegas for the weekend she agrees under the following conditions: no kissing on the mouth, no talk of feelings, no penetration, her own room, and predetermined hours. In Las Vegas, Florence and Richard enter a world in which the artificial and the real blend in ways that are exciting, dangerous and profound. One by one, Florence’s rules are broken as human feelings are engaged and a connection is made. But in the end, the very desires – sex, money, power, and control – that have brought Richard and Florence together will keep them apart.
