(DENVER, CO) — Chanting “Shame, shame, shame,” more than 50 gay rights supporters picketed against the “Dr” Laura show outside KUSA-Channel 9 Monday afternoon.

“It’s time for Channel 9 to drop the show,” said Henry Rosales, a board member of Human Rights Campaign.

“This is not about censorship but about common sense.”

Rosales was among a handful of people who spoke out at a rally in front of the station at 500 Speer Blvd. Denver is one of 30 cities where protests against Laura Schlessinger were held after the debut of her television show at 11 a.m. Monday.

Schlessinger, who has a weekday radio talk show on KHOW-AM 630, has generated controversy with her description of gays and lesbians as “biological errors.”

Protesters want the TV station and commercial sponsors to drop her show.

Roger Ogden, general manager of KUSA-Channel 9, did not return calls Monday.

Schlessinger’s first TV show concentrated on the issue of preventing youths from using drugs. There was no reference to homosexual issues.

But that didn’t stop protesters, who said her views are dangerous.
