(LOS ANGELES, CA) — Danni Ashe talks, Cindy Margolis walks. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Danni Ashe has now been officially crowned the Most Downloaded Woman in the world, overturning years of assertions from the Cindy Margolis publicity machine.
Ashe was officially awarded the title on Thursday, August 17, just two days before the debut of Margolis’ new late night CBS program. Margolis has heavily promoted the show on the back of her “Most Downloaded Woman” claims.
“I knew all along I had more Internet fans than Cindy, but I was busy running my business and didn’t pay much attention to the hoopla. Watching her get the Guinness record was a wake-up call. It was time for me to stand up, and for my fans to be counted! Now I’m thrilled to report the Guinness researchers have verified what I knew all along — I’m, by far, the most downloaded woman on the web,” said Ashe.
The research verified by Guinness reveals images of Ashe have been downloaded 841,271,545 times. Between January and June of this year alone, Ashe’s image was downloaded 129,792,355 times. Previous annual download figures were:
1999 — 240,165,854 downloads;
1998 — 208,104,949;
1997 — 163,827,265;
1996 — 99,381,122.
“Given that Cindy was initially accorded recognition for only 7 million downloads, it’s clear that had I submitted my own data earlier, she’d never have had the title,” said Ashe.
Ashe is not only recognized by Guinness as the most downloaded woman on the web, she’s also recently been recognized by Alexa Internet as the most popular woman online.
Ashe’s popularity is verified by the results of an independent Alexa Research study, “Women of the Web: Top Web Sites Run By and Featuring Women,” released earlier this month. It showed Danni.com to be far and away the single most popular such site on the World Wide Web — one-and-a-half times more popular than Martha Stewart’s site and nearly twice as popular as Oprah Winfrey’s. Cindymargolis.com — ranked at 6817 — did not make the top sites list. The study is available for download at www.mostdownloadedwoman.com.
Ashe has been featured on the front page and covers of such American media institutions as The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, The Industry Standard and eCompany Now, as well as in the pages of U.S. News and World Report, Yahoo Internet Life, Time Digital, numerous other newspapers and magazines, television and radio.
Danni.com, a soft adult content entertainment site, is owned and operated by Ashe. Created by Ashe herself in 1995 with $8,000 worth of computer equipment and a crash study in the HTML Manual of Style, the site and its creator have been the focus of numerous articles focusing on the fact that she and the popularity of her site provide one of the few web-based business models for profitability.
