Playboy is courting Lil’ Kim to pose nude. But she says taking it all off for the magazine could be a conflict with her Christian faith. What’s wrong with this picture?
Notorious potty-mouth Kim has built her reputation off rhymes that would make most porn stars blush and fashions that leave nothing to the imagination. Sounds appropriate for Playboy, right? But according to reports in the New York Post today, three months of negotiations between the two parties hit a snafu when the nubile rap star revealed that God might not approve of her baring it all in the legendary gentlemen’s rag.
“She has a very strong spiritual side to her,” Kim’s lawyer, Kenny Meiselas, confirms in the paper. “She’s indicated she wants to make sure it’s tastefully done and consistent with her spirituality.” Hmm – when was the last time you saw the words “tastefully” and “Lil’ Kim” in the same sentence?
Could it be that Kim is just holding out for more cash? An unnamed source quoted in the article claims she’s seeking a “major six-figure deal – and possibly more” for a cover story and pictorial spread. Meiselas says it’s not about the Benjamins. “She doesn’t need the money. She’ll only do it if the photos, the royalties, and everything else is right.”
Playboy reportedly tried to assuage Kim’s reluctance by trotting out classy examples of previous celebrity spreads, such as Cindy Crawford’s shoot with Herb Ritts. The rap star, who says she’s focusing her energies right now on promoting her Notorious K.I.M. disc, has hinted she’d like David LaChapelle (who shot the new album cover) behind the camera if she consents. But for now, she’s still sitting on the fence. “I can’t really say I will or I won’t, right now,” she demurs.
