(KANSAS CITY, MO) — In 1999, Gala Cabaret, a controversial new gentlemen’s club located in a residential neighborhood of Kansas City, was picketed by members of the community chanting “Gala’s Got To Go!” Now, six months after Gala opened, the organization from which many of those picketers came – The 23rd St. Neighborhood PAC — has elected Jeff Stoller, president of Gala, its treasurer.
“The turnaround in public sentiment is dramatic considering how vocal some opponents were prior to the club’s opening,” said Stoller. Equally dramatic is the turnaround in the appearance of the neighborhood. Before Gala, the area was a virtual dump littered with bottles, needles, tires and other assorted junk. Since opening, Gala has rebuilt and landscaped its property, and cleans up its own and adjacent property daily. Most area residents say they can’t remember the area being cleaner or safer than since Gala opened its giant stainless steel doors.
“We try to be an example of responsible business. If Gala has contributed to improving the neighborhood, that benefits everyone,” said Stoller.
Gala Cabaret, Kansas City’s only Las Vegas-style gentlemen’s club, is located 3 minutes from downtown at the westbound on-ramp to I-70 at Van Brunt (exit 6), and has a full bar, valet parking and security. The club is open from 11:30 am Monday through Saturday, and features a full bar and restaurant.
