(HOLLYWOOD, CA) — VanHook Studios, the Hollywood based visual effects company who earlier this week announced the debut of their new web broadcasting site www.whatsonweb.com, announced today that their flagship adventure fantasy series, Kyra: the Cursed will star international film star Kylie Ireland in the title role.

“Kylie is a great choice for us. Not only is she a wonderful actress, with great screen presence … she also has an enormous and incredibly loyal fanbase. Her own site generates over a million page views per month,” said Kevin VanHook, president of VanHook Studios. “Despite the adult nature of much of Kylie’s prior work, there is nothing pornographic about Kyra. Its is a high fantasy, complete with fairies, dragons and all the other trappings — definitely PG rated material.”

Kyra: the Cursed follows the story of the young daughter of the High King of Ireland at the turn of the last millennium – the 10th century. Kidnapped and tortured, she grows to womanhood in the dungeons of her father’s hated enemies. She is kept alive by the kindness of the fairies, which she befriends. On the day her father finally triumphs, an evil wizard curses her to relive the pain and conflicts of the bloody civil war just past. Denied by those she loves and forced to walk alone through the land, the curse carries forward through succeeding generations into present day and beyond.

“Kylie plays the adult Kyra, a tragic, heroic figure torn from her family and her upbringing. She makes the best of the evil that’s been done to her, trying to use the strength she’s gained from years of imprisonment and the talents gifted her by the fairies to do good,” comments VanHook.

VanHook, who’s own background includes several years as the writer of the Flash Gordon daily comic strip, has created a novel format for the series as well. “We’ll be telling shorter, easily streamed tales broken into ”webisodes“, but with each being part of a greater story arc. So each webisode might be 6-8 minutes, but a complete story is about an half-hour in length,” explains VanHook. “Another unique aspect of the story is the multi- generational nature of the curse itself. This will allow us to take upcoming stories and set them anywhere in time … from the Wild West, to the 1920’s flapper era … even into the future. With Kylie continuing in the role of Kyra, but as her own ancestor/reincarnation.”

With the first double length episode complete and scheduled to premiere June 5th, shooting is set to begin on the first full story arc within days. “The teaser for the first episode is online already at www.whatsonweb.com. It shows clearly the sizes and quality that we’ll be streaming … and I think people will be simply blown away by the quality of what we’re doing. We’re breaking new ground on several fronts … This isn’t a soap opera, or a sitcom … this is an adventure fantasy with special effects that rival anything on broadcast television.” VanHook summed up by saying, “This kind of content will be the future of the Internet.”
