(BERLIN) — German Minister for Women and Families Christine Bergmann hastily altered her Web site on Wednesday after a newspaper revealed it offered links to pornography and male prostitutes.
“Families Minister Offers Call-Boys!” screamed top-selling Bild on its front page, noting the “Link of the Month” on the ministry Web site offered further links to dubious material.
Within hours, the link was deleted and Bergmann issued a statement saying: “Naturally I have had the current Link of the Month promptly blocked. We will now conduct a fundamental review of the links on our Internet site.”
The Link of the Month had been to www.powercat.de, a Cologne-based site offering a broad range of links to sites of interest to women, including churches and cookery tips but also erotic art and gigolo services.
“This example demonstrates the dangers that arise from the technical possibilities of the Internet,” Bergmann said.
