Annie Sprinkle(SAN FRANCISCO, CA) — ANNIE SPRINKLE’S HERSTORY OF PORN is unlike any other video ever made. When Annie Sprinkle toured the US and Europe with her live one-woman show, the response was so enthusiastic she decided to create a video version so more people could enjoy it. Sprinkle chose award winning filmmaker and sex worker activist Scarlot Harlot to co-direct.

Annie shows explicit clips from dozens of her movies as she comments intelligently and humorously about different porn genres. Sprinkle’s 25-year evolution through the sexual revolution begins with rare vintage hippie porn and then progresses through her kinky period to the era of woman made porn. After a spiritual awakening in the 1980’s, Annie’s movies shift to chronicle her search for the ultimate spiritual sexual experience.

HERSTORY was scheduled to be released six months ago. But Annieís houseboat home burned down while she was away on the road, so the release date was postponed. Fortunately the master tape had been sent to her distributor just two days before or HERSTORY would have been history and gone up in smoke.

Although HERSTORY OF PORN has not been officially released until now, it has already received some outstanding pre-release media attention. HBOís, “REAL SEX” and PLAYBOY TV’s “SEXCETERA” both did fantastic segments about the video. HERSTORY also received favorable press in “ON OUR BACKS” and “LIBIDO” magazines. It won Editorís Choice in “ADULT VIDEO NEWS”, and will soon be up for an AVN award in Las Vegas.

HERSTORY had its sneek-preview at the prestigious Hollywood style Santa Barbara Film Festival. Itís world premiere was at the San Francisco LGBT Film Festival. In England, it won 1999 Film of the Year at the Erotic Oscars.

This year Annie Sprinkle was honored by the mainstream adult film industry with all four of it’s highest honors. She received The Free Speech Coalitionís Lifetime Achievement Award, induction into the X-Rated Critics Organization Hall of Fame and the AVN Hall of Fame. Plus she was added to The Walk of Fame (in Las Vegas) for which she pressed her voluminous breasts into cement.

Over a year in the making, this high quality, beautifully packaged porn-art documentary is destined to become a cult classic. Besides being thoroughly entertaining, the video is educational, and is being shown in college classes (with some controversy, of course). It examines important cultural topics including censorship, controversial art, feminism, gender issues and sex education. Some viewers find watching this video very therapeutic. The Dallas Morning News (Aug. 19, 1999) reported that “What Ms. Sprinkle does is look hard at her old self, and achieve a self-acceptance that’s not only exemplary, but contagious.”
