(NEW YORK, NY) — Two women – naked except for their black bikini bottoms – disrupted a fashion show Monday night by streaking on to the ice at the Rockefeller Center skating rink to protest people wearing fur.
Melynda Duval and Anna West donned skates, the bikini bottoms, painted-on leopard spots and smiles. They carried a paper sign stretched between them saying: “Only Animals Should Wear Fur.”
Their streak momentarily disrupted the Montreal Fashions on Ice Show, featuring designers Angela Bucaro, Hilary Radley, and Oscar Leopold. Security staff led the women off the ice after about a minute.
Kristie Sigmon, of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, said both Ms. Duval and Ms. West were members of the organization. All three women are from Norfolk, Va.
Ms. Duval has streaked for the cause before, once disrupting the Thanksgiving Day parade sponsored by Macy’s, Ms. Sigmon said.
“Something like this, it’s fun, it’s uplifting and it gets people talking about the issue,” she said. “We do have a good sense of humor.”
